1999 1.6 Engine idle issues - smq
When the engine is warm and I stop my 1999 Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec I have encountered the following issue. The engine usually ticks over at around 800rpm however occasionally the revs jump to 1000rpm for a couple of seconds and then drops back to 800rpm for a few seconds over and over again. Can last 4 or 5 minutes with more or less identical intervals. Eventually it settles down and goes back to normal however it's happening more and more frequently.

Anybody got any idea what could be causing this, a colleague has suggested that it could be a breather hose of some sort but I thought somebody out there might have had a similar problem.

I had similar on a mk1 mondeo many years ago,if i wobbled steering either way a couple of times the idle smoothed out so i changed the power steering pressure switch and problem went away.
