Can anyone please give me a clue?
I have a 98 Grand Cherokee Loredo 2.5TD and the immobiliser is bypassed by pushing the clutch pedal down as far as possible, this then enables me to start the vehicle.
Now all of a sudden, pressing the clutch down as far as possible does not allow me to start it, the battery is fine and there is no key fob issue, I believe that its a factory fit immobiliser.

Is there a switch attached to the clutch pedal somewhere that isn't being operated when it is pressed?

Everything I ever suspected about American engineering vindicated in one post.

Edit: Is this genuinely how it's supposed to work?

Not quite correct. In common with most USA vehicles with a stick shift, the starter circuit will not operate unless the clutch pedal is depressed. It has no connection with the car immobiliser system. It is there to prevent those Americans from starting the car while in gear if they are not used to a 3 pedal automobile.hth

Ah...

America, I apologise. This is something that should be fitted to every car with a manual gearbox.

Once drove my sister in laws Honda Civic in California - don't remember it needing the clutch depressed to start it. So not on all cars.

Diesel manual Jeep's Cherokee and Gand Cherokee, MUST have clutch depressed to enable the starter circuit...don't ask how I know, it's too embrassing!

it only a start cut out. there is a plug next to the switch on the pedal you just bridge it to by pass it.
