Ive just found out that the car i bought 2 years ago is a Category D write off by the insurance company. The person who sold me this car did not tell me otherwise i would not have bought it. Isnt there a clause that the seller must admit if the car has been involved in an accident and written off.

Was it a private or trade seller?

Did you get what you thought was a bargain?

Did you not get an HPI check?

Sorry to sound harsh.....

You could argue that if you asked him and he didn't volunteer the information, but he doesn't have to declare anything if he isn't asked.

As DD says, it depends if you asked the question or not, but even if you did it's only going to be your word against his.

If it's any consolation, Cat D is the least "serious" of the write off categories, and many Cat D's have very minor damage.

It's too late now, but *always* do an HPI check when you spend more than beer money on a car or motorbike.

Cheers
