08 1.6 Engine running on. - Kanberlingoo
I'm hoping someone out there has the same Berlingo as me, or others are experiancing the same symptoms as I am. My motor is the 2008 1.6 HDI 92Desire. Now sometimes when I'm in, say, top gear & release the accelerator when doing app 35ish, as the speed drops & just as the engine starts to labour (still in top) the engine picks up & the car simply keeps going. My foot is nowhere near the gas pedal, but it is without doubt still maintaining around 28/30mph, I can feel it driving & definitely not on over-run. The pedal is not sticking, because if I then dip the clutch, the revs ease down from just over 1000rpm to app 950/1000rpm. Whereas if the pedal was sticking the revs would rise. I've also noticed this in 4th gear in the same scenario. My dealer at first said that they are all like that???? But when I insisted that I'd been in the trade myself as a mechanic & never come across anything like it, he booked it in to be checked out & found nothing. I think there is something amiss, because my mpg is crap. If I get in touch with Citroen Technical, they'll simply refer me to my dealer. Anyone shed any light on this phenomenon?

Cheers

Yep pretty standard, as the revs approach tickover speed the E.C.U. senses this and "tries" to stop the engine stalling.

Is there any (good) reason you're driving like this? because if you stop and drive it properly
a: the "problem" will go and
b: your mpg will improve

Thanks for the ECU info . Regarding your, a: & b: comment, which is understandable as a normal responce to someone driving like a nutter, but I initially came across this when in 4th gear, & so tried to replicate it in top, with the result as I've posted. I can assure you that this is not my "normal" way of driving, merely curious as to what was going on. (Left the mechanics spanners behind a loooong time ago) so out of touch with high falluting techy stuff. With regard to the b: comment, whilst driving like an angel (still only 2600mls on the clock) my mpg is only app 47. Even my dealer says that's crap as the engine should have loosened up quiet a bit by now, so he will take another look at the engine management thingamy-bob-wotsit at 5K

I wouldn't be too concerned about your MPG this taken from autodatas site

As with its rivals, the Citroen was some way short of the claimed fuel figures. We saw 42.7mpg, but the Government stats show the Berlingo should hit 52.3mpg combined. However, the car?s 60-litre fuel tank is the largest here, and that gives it the longest range, at 564 miles.

so at 47mpg you're doing O.K.

At 2600 miles, it's not even run in yet.
