Could anyone help advise if an overfilled antifreeze reservoir will hurt the engine?

I wouldn't have thought so.
However the excess coolant will probably be pushed out, and anti-freeze is an effective paint stripper!

A Max level is given, presumably for some good reason. You could try and get some out - use a turkey baster to pump it out or syphon it if you like the taste of coloured poison!
