I've had a HPI report done on my Mazda by a dealer friend who was interested in buying it for his son. It came up with a mileage discrepancy! I've only had it since June and it was HPI clear then. Transpires the mileage of 25200 has been entered at the DVLA as 252000. Apparently this is a common thing lately when the DVLA process V5's with a mileage on. Now regardless of whether I am selling or not, obviously this needed sorting. Friend contacted Experion/HPI who put him onto VMC. They requested V5, statement of current mileage signed by me and statement of mileage when I bought it signed by the previous owner, old MOT's. This was all duly faxed over to them on Thursday. I phoned VMC today and they confirmed that the erroneous mileage had been 'deleted'. However on doing another HPI report my friend informs me the discrepancy still shows. Have any of you had anything similar and if so how long does it take for HPI to 'catch up' with the mileage data from VMC?
I'll be honest and say I've seen another car which both myself and SWMBO like (she hates the Mazda!) but can't do anything until this is sorted. The chap selling has been understanding thus far, but I really need to give him a definite timescale, and obviously my friend is not prepared to give me cold hard cash until it is clear (he's not a close friend so I wouldn't expect him to 'take my word' on it clearing before it actually has). Any advise guys (and gals)?

Your dealer friend cannot appraise a car and decide for himself that it has not done a quarter of a million miles?
For goodness sake, if HPI told him to jump into the river, would he do that?

This is not the point - it IS blatantly obvious that its not done this mileage however as a dealer (who will no doubt sell it on later) he is not going to want a car which shows a discrepancy on HPI - however obviously erroneous it is. Many buyers (myself included) do a HPI check on any cars they are interested in and I certainly will walk away from anything with a hint of suspision to it.

Anybody??

Get a value for 25k miles and another for 250k miles and make a small claims court claim against HPI for the difference. That should wake them up and not cost you much, if anything.

How exactly mileage verification works?
I've seen an optional field in V5 form where the seller may specify the mileage while selling the car.
Is there any other way to get the data? Can the servicing dealers send this mileage info to HPI?
However on doing another HPI report my friend informs me the discrepancy still shows.
This might be due to the fact that not all databases are updated at same time.
