Whats this stuff when its at home? I filled the Picanto up with it today, just to try it.
Said its 97 RON - how does it compare to the higher octane BP/Shell fuels? Is it infact one of those repackaged or is it something else?

I used to use Tesco Super Unleaded but the stuff I used was 99RON though. Get a lot more miles with Shell so always them now. In fact Shell's standard fuel gives me 490 miles to a tank but struggled to get 420 sometimes with Tesco 99

This question has been raised before. See:

Read your car's handbook and see what it says regarding what RON petrol you should use, and whether there are any advantages (or otherwise) of using a higher RON petrol.

That link seemed to refer to 99 RON, not 97?

Are you sure it was 97 RON at a Tesco? I only ask because, of the various Tesco filling stations I've used (in and around Cambridgeshire), the super unleaded is always 99.

Also, a colleague and I happened to be doing a bit of a market survey recently on what high octane unleadeds are available and I don't remember finding any reference to a Tesco 97.

Just because I've never heard of it hardly means it doesn't exist, but is it possible you're mis-remembering?

I don't think Tesco has sold 97 octane for ages, two or three years at least. Unless it's just my local one that doesn't.

IMO complete wasted of money using that stuff in a Picanto.

Agreed. Possible explanation is that Tesco are doing an experiment at Stu's local store, or maybe Stu should have gone to Specsavers.

I'm assumiing you are not referring to me. otherwise the boys will be sent round...:-)

It's always been 99RON at the two local Tescos I use (an occasional full tank full is intended to help clean the Bora's engine); I should also point out that the website to which I provided a link is the actual supplier to Tesco of this particular fuel.
