BMW 318d DPF - bimmer-driver
A short and sweet question about my Dads car- with all the mither about DPFs is there a quick way of telling if a car is fitted with one? Hes got a 2007 318d built in march 2007 ie pre efficient dynamics and all that malarkey and I'm not sure if it has one or not. It doesn't seem to smoke much/at all but I put that down to it being pretty new. BMW dealer was no help and brochures there only talk about the new efficient dynamics models which have them. Can't seem to find anything about 07 models.
Anyone any ideas?

What does the vehicle registration say ?
Also a BMW computer check of the vehicle id will tell you.

You can't really tell by looking, unfortunately, as the DPF looks like, and is in the same position as, the cat.

A couple of ways to tell. If you go into the screens telling you when it next needs a service on the little dashboard computer (keep pressing the end of the indicator stalk and flicking the flicky thing on the stalk) - there will be a screen for the Diesel particulate filter if it has one - at least there is a screen on my 330d.

Another way which is less scientific - look at the exhaust pipe. My 330d has done over 30k miles, but the inside of the exhaust pipe is sparkly new still. I've never had this with any other diesel car, and put it down to the dpf.

hope this helps.
