1998 1.3 Engine Ticking noise - hicksy
Hi there, I bought my misses a 98 plate ford KA2 and everthing about the car is mechanically fine but there is a strange ticking noise that comes and goes from somehere in the engine bay, at least it sounds like there or behind the bulkhead, the strange thing about it is it doesnt getting faster or slower with engine speed its always the same and it only comes and goes when the car is accelerating it doesnt do it all the time, but like i said it seems to be just a noise as everything about the car is working fine! Has anyone ever come accros this problem before?

Many Thanks
Mark

If the noise tempo doesn't change with engine speed it certainly isn't the tappets. If the car has an electric fuel pump, and it is under the bonnet or on the bulkhead, it may be that the pump is getting noisy. That may mean it will need replacing.

i had similar in an old escort once, found out it was the odometer gearing clicking , tended to be louder in cold weather
