06 1.4 petrol brake noises - anyoneoutthere
2006 25000 miles 1400 petrol. I am experiencing indescribable grinding noises when descending a long steep hill locally. No noises any when else. Remarkably this same noise appeared in my 2003 C3 which I traded in for this new model Anyone else out there experiencing similar. Suppliers unable to find anything wrong other than the need in the near future of front pads and discs. Questioning new discs were told these were heavily scored!!! I am a careful woman driver with IAM qualification and tyres are still the originals pointing to careful motoring and not heavy braking. Back brakes taken off and cleaned previously this proved not to be the cause.
ALSO engine stop light was coming on and fan would stick on. this was corrected after several attempts by supplier.

Moved over from Discussion to Tech, year and engine details added to subject line - funny we haven't asked for that before, might be an idea

That's probably what's making the noise. I suspect the front discs have a lip on the outer edge, discs get warm with having to cope with long steep hill, they in turn expand with heat and the lip then rubs on the edge of the worn brake pads. I presume you incorperate some engine braking when descending this steep hill and not soley rely on the brakes alone?

Pads as are equally hard as the discs these days and pretty much all wear down at the same rate as each other. If the car lives outside, or is garaged straight after washing it, that can quicken the wear rate of discs as well (ie, corrosion).
