The PAS fluid on the Volvo could do with a top up and I have a 2 month old container of Halfords "Ford Automatic Transmission and Power Steering Fluid to Ford spec ESP-M2C-166H which I bought for the Mondeo and used about 200ml of.
Can I use this stuff, or are these fluids really manufacturer specific? The Volvo's handbook is no help - it says use "genuine Volvo power steering fluid". Which of course is marketing spiel rather than any technical requirement.
What spec is needed for the car, and is this Ford stuff OK to use? I always thought PAS fluid and ATF were all the same.

Apparently it takes 0.9ltr of "Pentosin CHF11S" - whatever that contains.....?
Volvo just specify generic ATF on many other models; so maybe a visit to the dealer is needed.

This is a green fully synthetic fluid and is not compatible with ATF which is mineral based. Regards Peter

Thanks guys. Off to the local Volvo dealer I go then.

Euro Cars Parts and GSF sell it. Regards Peter

Just got some from GSF. £5.80 plus VAT. Watery green stuff in what looks like a glorified washing up liquid bottle.
Anyway, it's in and job done. Only took about 100ml
Thanks again
