Honda Civic mpg - Robin3
I am interested in getting one of the older model Honda Civics (1.4l - probably an auto) dating from around 1997-1998, but I'm told that one of the things counting against these cars is that they are thirsty. I know on balance they are pretty reliable cars but I don't want to be forking out all the time on petrol. Can anyone verify this for sure ?

Thanks

Robin

Hi Robin, I have just had a look at your question re the civic, I have a 1.6 auto brill to drive, but yes thirsty, and the 1.4 will be no better, I have had the car about seven weeks, have filled the tank three times, it is now just over half full, and I have only done 450 miles, the ford escort td that i had would do 375 miles to a half tank on a long run, and was a faster car,
but if you want comfort, and a nice drive, you will get that from the honda.

You should be so lucky! I had a 95 Civic 1.6 auto (company car) which would manage about 400 km on a full tank (say 250 miles). But that's Manila gridlock traffic for you and the need for full blast air-con (16 mile trip home from work could take 3-4 hours in the rainy season, or, one one notable occasion 19 hours!) But then we were paying (still are) less than a quid a gallon......

Oh dear ! My suspicions have been confirmed. DAK if the new Hondas are any better ?
