Have posted previously about a problem I've had with the rear brakes binding slightly and intermittently but haven't had a chance yet to investigate any of the suggested Possibilities.
Car was MOT'd today and passed but had an advisory notice that "Rear callipers touching the discs"

I'm at a loss to imagine how this is possible as with my limited knowledge I'd imagine that the pads would prevent this happening. It would seem to have identified the problem though.Any advice would be very welcome.
Thanks.
PS Whats a citroen Mehari?

There is a common fault with Xantia rear brakes where corrosion builds up between the calipers and the suspension arm they are mounted on. Over time this corrosion build up starts to bend the caliper over on its mounting bolts to the point where the pads don't line up with the disk properly anymore, and eventually the caliper even starts to scrape on the disk. To cure it the calipers need to be removed, the corrosion removed from the back of them, and some copper grease applied to help prevent the corrosion returning. The pads will have worn unevenly so should be replaced too.

Spot on, nick.

Had this problem with mine. It's easy to rectify, I even managed to do it without disconnecting the fluid pipe. A decent file to get rid of the corrosion, touch of copper grease, new pads fitted and job done.

Thanks for the answers, a big help.Do you think I'll need to fit new bolts?

Mine were ok, but local Citroen indi I have used said that he had seen the odd sheared bolt.
If you are unsure, it would be tempting to replace, anyway. Not much extra cost on top of the new pads.

If you haven't done the rears before, pistons just push back in. The LHM fluid seems to be much kinder to the system than normal brake fluid. I have never bothered to open the bleed nipple whilst doing it, either.
