Honda engine has dizzy and gearbox drivers side. Also Honda engine rotates anti-clockwise.hth

IIRC Honda engines were fitted to automatic cars, manuals had the K-Series engine.
|
OH had a GTi 1.6 - a manual sohc Honda engine, there was a faster version with a Honda dohc. If it says SOHC or DOHC on the cam cover they're Honda motors.

Aren't we even going to be told the year?

refer to elekie and ac doctor.
He is spot on ! exact id info. Gearbox driver side = honda , gearbox passenger side = rover
Rover engines also had sohc and dohc on them! and both honda and rover were fitted to auto and manual.

"dad its running on 3, chugging, smoke out the filler cap, not overheating, smooths out when revved up but no power"
classic valve dropped id say, maybe taken a bore out with it
nice clean car heading for the scrap yard cos its £400 to mend and not really worth it

R-plate is a K-Series in a 200.
A compression test would prove it; but, as you say, beyond economic repair.
