97 1.3 Endura-eNoisy Engine. - AndrewB
I know that one piston ring is definetly collapsed on my Ford Fiesta 1997 R reg.
I did use some piston sealant on it, which has stopped the excessive smoke and generally made it run a lot better. Starts first time now and doesn't miss fire anymore. Drives well.
However, the engine is still a bit noisy, I wonder if anyone might suggest anything that might make it a bit quieter? Im told that adjusting the tappets could help?.................
Thanks
Andrew

Piston seal is only a temporary bodge to allow you to trade it in without blanketing the whole area with smog.

If a piston has melted or cracked, [rings don't collapse] then it will be very rattly indeed - right up to the time it comes completely apart and the rod punches a big hole in the block.

Get another engine.

If the engine is very tappety sounding, it could be the cam followers. They are very prone to wear.
