i am trying to remove my car battery to replace it, however everytime i try to do so, the alarm goes of. i was wondering if anyone knows how to completely disarm the vauxhall 901 system alarm?

I don't know the correct answer but couldn't you just stuff a rag into the siren and be quick with the battery change?
|
well, its not changing the battery, its takin it out to charge. so i cant. thank you for the suggestion!

If the alarm sounds when you disconnect the battery then it must have its own internal power source.
|
You need to loosen the battery terminals, turn ignition on then off and disconnect battery within 15 seconds !!
It's detailed in the owner's manual.
Charge the battery on the car.

If I remember correctly (it's been a few years!), a 901 is a dealer fitted alarm system, so there's going to be nothing about it in the main owner's manual. Typically, there would have bena small user amnual supplied with the alarm itself which has probably been lost.
However, if I'm right about the 901 being dealer fit, you'll probaly find the control box for it (badly!) fitted behind the glove box, with a set of connectors that go off to various parts of the car, and to the sounder under the bonnet. It might be worth having a look there to see if there's a key, or switch available to you - if not, then I would try disconnecting the control box.
However, don't just follow this advice without checking it out, I'm dredging my memory from 15 years ago, and it's not too clear!

Have you tried looking at the handbook.
On my omega there is a set procedure you follow before disconnecting the battery. This is detailed in the handbook
Ps dont forget to make sure you have the relevant radio codes before hand if the radio requires these.
Kind Regards

ok i am still unable to remove the battery
If you're just replacing the battery, then let the alarm go off while you swap them over. Surely once the new one is in place the alarm will stop as per when you reconnected the old battery?
|
If you want to charge the battery then just charge it on the car at a low setting and leave everything connected.
Why do you want to charge the battery though? If it was flat then surely the alarm would be already going off on its own, otherwise disconnecting the battery terminals would have no effect on it.
