I've got a rattle coming from my 1.3 Fiesta. It only rattles when turning in 1st gear from a standstill. Anyone got any idea what this could be?

My crystal ball is a bit cloudy! can you at least give us a clue where the noise is from ie: front/back, l/h side/r/h side? engine? underneath? defo more info required..

I'm guessing that what you are trying to say is that you get a rattle from the front of the car, near the wheels, when turning on full lock at low speed. If so then it sounds like a worn constant velocity joint. Could be that a gaiter has split and has let the lubricating grease escape.
Post again if I am wrong. As bigtee says, you are forcing us to guess as you have given us little to go on.

It is indeed at the front. Seems to be on the right hand side in front of the dash. It doesn't have to be full-lock turning, just now and again turning from a stand-still in 1st gear. Seems turning both left and right so not a wheel issue as I first thought.
I'll take a quick look tomorrow morning and see if I can see anything untoward about the CV joint. Originally I thought it was the rod for keeping the bonnet up vibrating - the clip for holding it had snapped (previous owner, not me) so I'd just taped it in place until I got a replacement clip (this was 6 months ago...I've been busy!). Now it's taped I realise that it's clearly not this.

Couldn't see anything wrong with the CV this morning. Seems to happen only when pulling off in 1st and doesn't seem to matter if turning or not in actual fact. The noise seems to be from behind the speedo. Hard to describe but it's a short (1.5 seconds) "brrt" noise. It may be dependent on the revs but as mine is the base model there is no rev counter so it's hard to judge.

Is the engine mounting ok? had a mk3 escort with a worn mount it knocked just when setting off ok in other gears, best jack up check for play or put in gear take to bighting point see if exessive movement,
cv joints usualy knock on full lock constant when cornering.

Check the bonnet is firm down at the adjustable rubber stops, these screw up and down so if they've been touched will make the bonnet rattle.
Those bonnet clips are around 75p each, but careful as they go up like the price of petrol.
