Focus 99 1.8 TDDi misfiring under acceleration - IanMonty
Just bought this with a 3 month warranty and 60,000 on the clock.

Noticed on a long run yesterday that it was misfiring under acceleration.

Apologies if this is already covered elsewhere - but any ideas to help the mechanic diagnose the problem?

Anybody know a good diesel mechanic in the Colchester/Ipswich area?

Many thanks

Ian

Is there any visible smoke? If so; what colour?

Do you feel a vibration; or is there a loss of power?

When did it last have a fuel filter?

Hi there

No visible smoke. No vibration - momentary loss of power, feels like a stutter.

Re. the fuel filter - not sure as I have just bought it.

It seems to happen more under 'strong' acceleration i.e. when overtaking. Bumbling along is no problem.

If there's any doubt, try a new filter and, if that doesn't help; check for loose connexions or chafed wiring that could be affected by engine movement, or get the fault-codes read.

For a diesel to misfire it must be 1.injector or 2. lack of compression-piston/valves.

You really think that do you...? I wonder what the other 95% are?

If the car has a 3 month warranty, why not give the vendor a chance to put things right first?

Yes, I am taking the car for diagnostics, just wondered if there was a well know fault that I could point the garage in the right direction
