A friend of mine has just bought a renault clio which has a vacuum pipe running from the back of the engine to just behind the drivers side headlight. The problem is this pipe is not connected to anything. There is also a 2 pin multi plug connector at the same location again plugged into nothing. Can someone please shed some light on what should go here as we are both stumped. When the engine is running there is a clear sucking noise coming from the pipe. Could this pipe be plugged into somthing to do with either cold start of emission control?
Thanks in advance for any help on this subject

"A Renault Clio...." Did they make just the one?

James, take the above as a hint that you'll get a better response if you include the year, model and engine details. Crystal balls ain't what they used to be...

sorry what a fool i am it is a 2002 1.2.

Nothing obvious on the layout plan; It could possibly be the EVAP valve - is this an 8 or 16-valve and what are the wire colours?
Doesn't this cause any running faults? Is the emissions light on?
|
16 valve engine will try to find out the wiring colours. runs fine, will check about emissions light but i think it is off.
|
wiring colours are thought to be red / black. engine light is illuminated on dash
|
Also pipe sucks and if blocked does not cause rought running.

The evap valve is on pink and white wires? No red and black wired components listed on the management diagram.
Maybe getting someone to read the fault-codes and seeing what the ECU is missing would be the best way to go.
Do these have vacuum-operated headlamp levelling? Anything on the other one?

the wires are pink and white
what does the evap unit do?
|
Sounds like the evap valve and the Carbon Cannister are missing. These allow fuel vapour to be absorbed when the engine is stopped and on restarting the valve is opened and allows the vapour absorbed by the carbon in the cannister to be returned to the manifold and burnt off. Until you obtain the replacement parts you should block the pipe off as it is fooling the engine and the emissions particularly at tick over/low revs. Regards Peter

Sounds like rebuild after accident!!
