I'm about to buy a car but the dealer won't send the documents to the DVLA for several weeks?

I recently looked at a Mazda demo car with 300 miles on it. It was available on a Mazda dealer website and I agreed a price but then was told they could let me have the car and give me a receipt but could only send the documentation to the DVLA in another several weeks. I checked with my insurer and they didn't recognise the reg number. Was Mazda right to advertise the car or should they of waited several week to advertise it for sale?

It is possible that this vehicle was unregistered when used as a demonstrator and was driven on the road using trade plates. Strictly speaking there is nothing wrong with this, but it is frustrating that they have offered you a car for sale that you may not be able to insure and not receive the registration document.
