brother just rang , his astra is making a tinny noise from somewhere along the exaust sytem ( thinks its front) more noticable when hot , is the cat on its way out or could it be a loose heat shield , its only just been MOT,d and the emmisions were all correct , 60k on a s plate ...thanks

could be a shield or maybe a baffle plate in a box.

Check the silencers,may be a loose baffle

must be a new shape then
dont leave it long then to find as there isnt a lot of room if its jangling on a hose or radiator etc
probably where the exhaust joins under the floor they rot through here

Could be cat failure, silencer baffles or heat shielding loose.

A tinny, rattly sound sound like the cat breaking up and the ceramic bits jangling inside. I had this on my old Xantia, after a while is goes quiet but funny enough it flew through the MOT about 9 months later with a very acceptable emissions readout !!!
