I thought SWMBO's bike looked like it could do with a new tyre.
Twenty quid!
I can buy some car tyres for less than that.
What's going on?
It's only a 700 X 35. The last one I bought cost about a fiver IIRC, a Michelin World Tour. It seems they're no longer available. It's a plain old bike, she doesn't want to ride it up any mountains (even if there were any within a hundred miles), just on roads and cycle tracks.

Think you got the wool pulled.

High level race/training tyres are £30 max each (Michelin Pro Race 2 or Continental GP4000) or about £20 on offer if you search the web. Where did you buy it, as a reasonable tyre would be under £10.

Twenty quid is definately over the top for a cycle tyre. Mine (Vredestein) are the same as used by a couple top pro teams and were £16 each. If you want to save money on bike stuff t'interweb is the place to shop, virtually everything can be had for up to 50% cheaper than your local shop.

Might just about pay that sort of money BTT is bieng quoted for top of range jobbies eg puncture proof or those fancy jobbies that fold but even premium brands should come in at around £12/£13 for a standard tyre.

My starting points for would be:-

Settle Cycles www.settlecycles.co.uk/ or
Spa Cycles www.spacycles.co.uk/

Some stock shortages at size OP wants, but Michelin City or World Tour seem to creep in at or under £10 with the generally well regarded Schwalbe Marathons at around £15.

Wiggle are also said to be good, but several threads on Cycle Plus forums suggest they've been the vitim of similar CC problems to those experinced at Shell and other filling stations.

A google on Cycle Promotions might show a forthcoming warehouse sale in your area, good for bargains on last years fashions.
