Zafira rear brakes - PeterRed
I have a 2004 Zafira DTi and have spent a couple of hours today trying to get the piston back in on the n/s rear caliper. I don't have the proper tool but managed to get the o/s piston in using long-nosed pliers and brute force. Is there a knack to it? The piston turns and I'm pushing as hard as I can. I've tried the old trick of levering against an old brake pad but fear I might damage the caliper if I do it much more. I'd rather not undo the bleed nipple as I bled the brakes a couple of months ago. Any ideas? Thanks,

Actually that is the correct way, as forcing brake fluid back into the reservoir runs the risk of inverting the seals in the master cylinder.

Is the handbrake combined with the foot brake in the single caliper, and should you therefore be screwing the piston back in? And if this IS the case, have you knackered the side you have pushed in....

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....

This piston screws back in NOT pushed back in like the front caliper, a cheap method is water pump pliers and a screw driver to wind the piston back not the easyiest of jobs!
I use the correct kit of wind back caliper tools l/hand & r/hand makes the job much easier at £50.00 for this kit it is worth it for the car's in the family..

Thanks for the replies. Actually, I was winding in as I was pushing. It's difficult to apply pressure when you're using long-nosed pliers though. The problem is that it doesn't move. I reckon I've turned it 25 times clockwise to no effect. I'll try the bleed nipple trick to see if that helps. Hopefully I haven't knackered the one I've done............
