As of today my very practical 2006 old shape Mitsubishi L200 has been written off. No I did't do it - I lent to a friend whose van was out of action. Seems he treated it like his Berlingo with the aforementioned result. I need to replace it and I am anxious to make the right choice. Do all pick ups have the old leaf back springs? Budget not most important but driveability is. Any ideas?

Not really my sort of car but HJ seems to like the Nissan Navara and the new shape L200.

Sounds like you would be better off with a Berlingo!!

Sorry ;-)
Have a mate (builder) down the road who has an L reg L200 which has been hammered since new and is still going strong - only thing ever gone wrong with it is a puncture or 2 - if I was in the market for a similar vehicle I'd look for one of those first!

I would recommend the Ford Ranger, had one for a year and it was bomb proof. Not as fashionable as the L200 or the Nissan but much cheaper to buy and run. Great off road (if you do that sort of thing which I did quite a lot)
2 and 4 wd with low and high box.
The new version has a 143BHP common rail Diesel so should also be quite punchy.

Sorry,
Missed the point regarding leaf springs (oh for an edit button). The only pick-up I know that does not have leafsprings at the back is the Land Rover Defender pick-up.
They are very expensive but will no doubt run forever.
