I am taking the train on Sat 10th Feb to sunny Preston £35 return first class with Virgin beats the cost of diesel. However I need to park near Watford station, can anyone give me any tips for this? The car park at the station is a tenner for the weekend but I dont mind leaving the crappy old mondeo on a street, you never know it might get nicked with any luck.

Just found that parking is free on a Sun at the station and £6 for the Sat, no brainer unless the car park gets full at 11.30am on a Saturday. Is this a possibility?

You can park the car in the street in Reeds Crescent - it's about a five minute walk to the station.

Isn't there a big retail park close by, with Tesco, Borders etc etc etc? Could you not park there, or are there restrictions?

The Tesco carpark has ANPR and a 3hr limit. All the streets close to the Junction are restricted i'm afraid. It might be worth driving a bit further up to Apsley where you can park closer to the station

I'm not sure what the parking's like near Apsley station, but of course from there you have to go south on a local service to Watford Junction to pick up the long-distance train north. If that isn't a problem then another solution is to start from Hemel Hempstead station - you can park on the streets in the edge of Boxmoor village to the north of the station about 5 minutes' walk away - it's what I do when I go up to town. There are more trains per hour between HH and Watford Jct than between Apsley and Watford Jct. If the OP wants to contact me I'll supply a map.

The station parking might get pressured in weekday rushour but over a weekend it's all yours.
