In the US most subsidies have been renamed 'defense contracts'.

No it doesn't it says you can, but within set limits - remember the silicon chip factory in the North East? Or the clutch factory in South Wales? Both set up after receiving millions in HM Government funding.

That was Siemens IIRC. It never actually opened and they had to pay most of the money back.
