May seem a silly question but.... do they work with the doors open?

my Escort elec windows just stopped one day, but would work with the door(s) open (god knows why)..
Faulty electrics I guess.

Simple wire attatched to the "door open" button in the door frame, attatched to a switch on the dash solved the prob - tricking them damn things into thinking the door was open when the switch was flicked on so they worked.
The interior light served as fair warning as the whether the switch was on of off.

Check your handbook to identify the window fuse for that year; there are many variations - might be 18 or 22? [30 amp; around the middle of the bottom row. There could even be a windows fusible link near the battery too.]

It should be live with the ignition on, as should the black/yellow wires on to the window switches. If neither are; suspect a fusebox issue, or [if fitted] the previously mentioned door-open interlock relay. [Any sign of water ingress on to the fusebox?]
