SWMBO has a mondeo Mk2, 1999.
I have just had to change the front side light due to a blown bulb. When I switch the lights on, there is a fast, clicking sound from the back of the lights. It comes from under the light plastic cover. It appears to be from a black plastic housing of some sort at the back of the bulbs. A couple of wires go to the housing. It is the near side of the car so access is terrible due to the position of the Battery and Fuses.

Any idea what this is, or the clicking sound. It seems to go all the time the lights are on. It carried on with the new bulb. Is it serious. I have tried to wiggle it around but it didnt stop.

I believe it's the servo motor which is used to adjust the levelling of the headlamps which is controlled from the adjustment knob on the lower facia.

I don't know why it's running all the time, it shouldn't be. Are you quite sure that you haven't accidently broken any wires when changing the bulb, or disturbed any connections within the headlight?

I would suggest that you might consider removing the headlamp unit to investigate further. It only takes a couple of minutes and it will allow you to see what's what. Check all the connections very carefully.

Personally I always remove the headlamp unit to change bulbs, anyway. My hands are quite large and I have the greatest difficulty in changing them with the unit in situ. It also lets you see what you're doing!

just a thought, many electrical problems are from bad earths and loose/poor connections. Always look for the simple answers.
so check the earth are sound , also didcsonnect one thing at atime to find what is working/not working
Hope it's an easy one

I had the same problem on the same model Mondeo, it only happened when the headlamp adjustment wheel was set to a certain position.
Mine only played up when set at '0' so I used to leave it set at '1'.

Thanks for the replies, sorry for delay, I went on Holday.

It seems to have stopped so I will leave for now and see if it restarts.

Once again many thanks for your replies.
