Need to buy a small auto with pas for local runaround. Budget c.£3-4,000. Must be reliable. For elderly widow. Any suggestions

Predictably dull response ... my 85 year old grannie drives a Micra auto. She think's it's great because it is easy to drive and so far totally reliable.
I think it's tinny, buzzy and slow.
Perfect choice.
Apologies for my lack of imagination

Honda civic, Nissan micra, Toyota corolla. All these cars are reliable, have PAS, and are easy to drive.

We recently had to buy a Hyundai Accent 1.3 3 door for a customer. She is most impressed value, performance & looks, so much so we have this week delivered a 5 door (manual) to them.
Not much more than £3800 should buy S plate 20000miler
We offer a buy to order service=Cost price of vehicle plus our fee of £350+vat

Hi Stuart,
This subject (or similar) has come up a couple of times before, you could try here or here.
FWIW, I like the Clio auto, and for the money you cite, there's a good selection around. The Yaris gets nothing but praise everywhere, but might still be a little expensive for what you're after.
Probably worth mentioning too that there are some concerns with changing from manual to auto, especially with the elderly as it can be difficult to adapt to the new style of driving. HJ mentions it regularly, a search on HJ and auto or automatic would probably explain it better.
HTH,
Lee.

I don't think you'll find a Yaris auto for £4k. As for Clios I read of two Clio autobox failures in two consecutive readers letters. No they weren't filed like that. I had to open the sealed envelopes first. There really is enough evidence to generalise that Renault autoboxes are ****.
