Which 4x4 SUV and small runaround for a tall driver?
We have recently retired, aged 62 and 55. We intend to dispose of our eight-year-old Jaguar S-Type (62,000 miles, average condition) and Ford Focus Ghia 2-litre (34,000 miles, good condition) and replace them with an economical 4x4 as well as a smaller runaround for short distances. My height, at six-foot four-inches, causes problems. For the 4x4 I had been thinking of a Freelander 2, but I am open to ideas. I have no idea of a runaround. I tried a Polo 1.2-litre and couldn’t get into the driver’s seat. We can afford a total of £35,000 plus the disposal of our existing cars. We will be happy with either new or used.

I recommend the Citroen C3 Picasso. My video shows Citroen's six-foot five-inch head of PR getting into the front and the back: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/citroen/citroen-c3...t.
Then, if you can afford it, an F23 BMW X3 3.0 diesel: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/bmw/bmw-x3-f25//.
If that's too much, a Honda CR-V, bearing in mind there will be a new, bigger, CR-V later this year.

Decently practical and spacious. Good load capacity. Panoramic front screen with no blindspots.

Roomy and versatile. Very comfortable, pleasant and relaxing to drive. not at all cumbersome. 2.2 i-CTDI diesel is excellent.
Handling is impressive for an SUV, large boot capacity and lots of rear-seat space, top engine choices deliver serious performance.
