Can you recommend an SUV for rural use which offers room for tall passengers and dogs?
I currently drive a Chrysler Grand Voyager but expensive repairs are looming (new gearbox at £4,500), so I am thinking of changing. I live in an isolated rural area so a 4x4 would be preferable. I need to accommodate a 6-foot 4-inch husband, two Irish wolfhounds and passengers. I've looked at a Volvo but there is insufficient height for the dogs, and with pick-ups if my husband is driving there is not enough room behind him for the passenger. I am not going to change the dogs or the husband (not now I have got him trained). Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Hyundai Santa Fe or KIA Sorento 2.2 R type diesel. Or, if you've got the money and nine months to wait, a BMW F23 X3, which is the best 4WD SUV you can buy. Alternatively, a Mitsubishi Outlander 2.2 175PS diesel is not bad. We just averaged a very creditable 45mpg in one over 615 miles and it went and handled really well.

Handsome looks and plenty of kit, Mitsubishi chain cam 2.3 DI-D engine is excellent. 5 seats + 2 child seats. Very competent off-road with 4WD. Also available with 2WD.
Handling is impressive for an SUV, large boot capacity and lots of rear-seat space, top engine choices deliver serious performance.
