Merrily on my way home the other night along the A30 I am following a foriegn registered car. The fella driving has his mobile up by his ear and totally ignores a red traffic light and goes on his way. Mobiles and driving are really dangerous but where oh where are the boys in blue? You see so much dangerous driving and they get away with itmost of the tim as far as I can see.

They'd have let him go anyway - guy shows a foreign licence, and talks in foreign, they just shrug their shoulders and let him go.

This was not always the case, or maybe things have just got worse. A few years ago, my French ex-boss was caught speeding on the A14, politely escorted to the local nick and relieved of IIRC about £400. Maybe just bad luck that roadplod was out of hibernation and having a bad day.

Not sure plod can collect or levy fines, nor have they ever been able to.

Must have had an on call magistrate.

No, I was a bit surprised myself and I don't know what mechanism was employed. At that time there had been lots of stories about Brits being picked on in France, and I remember thinking that maybe this was payback time.

Arrest under PACE (S25 now repealed) kept in custody for a court case in all probability.

Not so. Wife has got foreign licence. Wife talks foreign. Wife gets tickets.
