Ford V8 Diesel coming soon - Falkirk Bairn
A powerful new Ford V8 diesel with more than 270bhp is on the way for a range of marques, including Jaguar and Land Rover.

The 3.6-litre engine began production this week at Ford's Dagenham plant and will be fitted to an extended family of cars.

As well as powering some top-end Fords, the engine will slot models built by other Ford-owned brands. Expect it to be available in the Jaguar S-type and XJ, Land Rover Discovery, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport by the end of the year.

Shouldn't that be 'Ford/PSA' V8 diesel - it is only the Ford/PSA 2.7 V6 with a couple of extra cylinders after all.

Not sure what PSA model it will be put in?

Citroen Pluriel, maybe? Now that would be fun!

It is a development of the 2.7 though IIRC PSA have no plans to use it.

Seems to be some confusion. WhatCar.com says it *may* go in the Peugeot 407 Coupe and Citroen C6. itv-motoring.com seem to think it *will* go in the Peugeot 407 and Citroen C6. snipurl.com/p159

Seems a shame it being fitted in the Pug 407 but IIRC the Mondeo will only get the 2.7d V6?

Thats because the engine itself is bigger than any car they could possibly fit in in over here 8-). 6.0 litres, 325HP and 560ft/lbs of torque. That would wrench the front end off any poor Jag that was saddled with it.

Imagine two 2.2 TDCI's on a common crank, 4.4ltr, 310 bhp, 600 lb/ft torque, that is 800nm!

Perhaps they will make a V12 out of two V6s, 5.4 ltr, 414 BHP, 640 lb/ft, 870nm!

I would put my money on Ford 6.0 litre V8 outlasting VW's 5.0 litre V10, though I doubt any VW V10 buyers (Phaetons and Toerags) will be putting the sort of mileage and work load on them to ever find out.
