VW Golf VR6 Mk3 - grinding brakes - VR6

I have noticed for a while now that when I set off for work in the morning, everytime I press the brakes I hear a grinding / scraping noise from the rear brakes. However after braking a few times the noise disappears and will not return until the next morning.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

PS the car has disks on the rear and not drums.

I reckon they just need warming up. As long as handbrake works ok and the calipers aren't sticking I wouldn't worry. However, just check your discs for any marks and check you have enough mm on your pads.

My VR6 does the same. Probably harder pads than most cars.

Probably rust on discs,they do rust overnight slightly,but as you said with the brakes being used rubs it off..
