As posted in disscusion just bought a imacc. Scirocco but radio reception is carp
Wing mounted ariel the telescopic section came out in my hand
Question how does one replace these VW wing mounted ariels of this era as it seems a lot of work to get to the bottom
Any help would be appreciated MM

I thought in these cars you just stuffed in a wire coat hanger (still shaped like a hanger)
There will be a bottom section the aerial where it all disapears into, and will have a bracket or strap round it to make it rigid, plus there wil be some form of plug/socket for the aerial lead. The inner wing liner will have to come out. Usually the nut on the top will be undone and it drops out the bottom of the wing.
Its real pig stuff on most cars of that era.

Don't use a plastic one like a client of mine did.

Try a lenghth of carbon fibre from a fishing shop...A "pole" top joint can be cut to fit inside the broken bit.

Halfords used to sell a replacement aerial element with a spike on the end to push into the wing mounting.
I don't know if they are still available today.
