A couple of things caught my eye in tonight's Car wars program.
1. The "unmarked" Impreza the police were using had 4 huge aerials mounted on a square plate in middle of roof. Even from a distance, that would say to me - unmarked police car!! Are these aerials used for tracking tracker-type devices?
2. The unmarked Golf that they got into later - passenger PC has the radio on his shoulder but then uses an old telephone handpiece (like you used to see in Juliet Bravo) as well.
Why would that be? Why, in all these programs, do the police never seem to have some sort of handsfree unit?

I too was surprised to see the unmarked Impreza looking so marked. It did look like the plate that held the tracker aerials was on suckers so it's possible that it can be attached when needed.
The Golf had a handsfree mobile car kit, a built-in handsfree police radio for use by the driver (note the dangling microphones from the rear view mirror and sun visor) as well as the old style telephone handset for the passenger. The officers additionally had personal radios. It's possible that each radio set points to a different control centre as they were a specialist team.
It's nice to see the police driving interesting cars for once especially the Impreza, Golf V6 4-Motion and A3 Sportback.

The thing that astounded me was that the guy who owned the site where cars where de-contructed and/or re-plated was fined the grand sum of £200. Or in view of other fines for driving unlicenced, un-insured etc., perhaps I shouldn't be.

Another exciting (not) way to spend so much £$£$£$ on criminal activites, costing so much more £$£$£$m to the rest of us, only to result in minimal results,in term of penalties, for the Police effort.
& if anyones interested, I'll let you know when the 'covert' Police vehicles, featured, show up in auction.

Not an altogether unreasonable response, Vansboy - but, what are the police supposed to do?
It seeems to me that they are damned if they do and damned if they don't. The penalties imposed are not theirs to choose!

Welcome to the world of modern Policing. When I think of the hours that will have gone into preparing that case!!
The two biggest enemies of a Polce Officer are the CPS and our blue rinse Magistrates!
