Wheel alignment - Jane
Jazz has got her 2nd service coming up at the end of January. Do they check wheel alignment during a normal service or do you have to ask them to do it? Would it be cheaper to have it done at an independent garage? (I assume that wheel alignment doesn't come under things covered by the warranty).

Cheers

Wheel alignment is not part of a normal service routine for any car as far as I know. It would be cheaper to have this done at a specialist tyre services than in a dealer. It is unlikely that you can claim wheel alignment under warranty unless the car is considerably less than a year old, and none of the wheels have any evidence of kerb-damage etc. So in esscence if your steering feels funny or your tyres are wearing unevenly, if it is more than a short time after the car was delivered, you probably cannot get them to check it for free.

I have a Honda all models (apart from NSX) service menu from Jan 2001 (before Jazz came out in UK, I guess).
It shows the basic services at 12,000, 24,000 etc miles up to 72,000 miles. Then, for each service, it shows a number of options.
For example, at 12,000, the only option is Change Pollen Filter ? 0.3hrs labour, plus parts.
Wheel alignment appears as an option at 36,000 miles, and shows front and rear alignment separately (Jazz may not have adjustable rear) at 0.4 hrs. each. If you know your dealers hourly rate then you can figure out the likely cost. The (Jan 01) sheet assumes £49/hr, but prob a fair bit more than that now.

As Roly93 says, wheel alignment is not something you?d normally get done as a matter of routine, only if you had the sort of issues mentioned.

If it needs doing, then suggest you ask the dealer how much they?d charge, and be sure that includes adjustment, rather than it being just a check, with the actual adjustment charged extra. If they do adjust it, make sure the steering wheel points straight ahead after they?ve done it, not skewed off centre when driving in a straight line.
