The other half's AX 1.0 litre has been playing up - she can't get the revs up enough to get out of 2nd making for a top speed of around 30mph. Engine just bogs down in 3rd.
Any ideas re likely causes? Blocked air filter? Dirt in carb? Faulty autochoke?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A lot of seemingly carburettor related faults actually turn out to be ignition failures, so first check the ignition system. These cars have electronic ignition, so I guess you need some kind of spark tester to make sure the system is generating big fat sparks.
If everything is OK in the ignition department, my first suspicion would be a blocked main jet in the carburettor. However, you mention 'autochoke'. Carb equipped AX 10s don't have an automatic choke (at least, none that I have seen), so I would guess the AX in question is K reg or later, with Bosch monopoint fuel injection (which looks very much like a carburettor). If this is the case, time to call in a specialist.

Thanks for info - car is a '94L - I was going on what the guy from Green Flag said when called out - not very reassuring when they can't tell the difference between fuel injection and a carb.!
