Hello all-knowing ones, a bit of advice would be greatly appreciated. I am looking for a new/nearly new economical, reliable not too expensive runaround and was thinking of a Yaris.
The local Toyota dealer is advertising an ex demo 55 reg 1.0 Colour Collection with 935 miles on the clock for £7495. They have added air con and alloys. The What Car Target Price is £7277. I think the air con & alloys would come to about £1000, but do you think £7495 is a bit steep considering it has been driven by god knows who and there is a new model coming out 1st Jan?
My mum got a pre-reg 1.4 D4D Yaris with metallic paint from the same dealer with only delivery miles for £7995 in August which was a good deal but I'm not so sure about this one - it seems a bit expensive (or is it just my wishful thinking?!)
What do you think? Opinions very welcome (but please don't tell me to get a skoda instead - I'm in my 20's and am not quite 'there' yet!)
Ta!

Try some of the internet sites.

With a new one out in 3 weeks, I'd say very over-priced.

I cannot comment on the price but...
Do you want it for around town or longer runs?
We have a very early 1.3 CDX V reg in the family.
After reading reports that the 1.0 was buzzy at speed I hunted down a 1.3 and it seems fine.
A friend, after having a KA written has got a 1.0 Yaris. First comment was that she was cruising slower on the main roads as it was not as good as the KA.
Do give it a test drive at speed and do a comparison with the D4D. Of course the 1.3 would cost a little more in insurance.
IMO the A/C would certainly enhance the saleability in the future.

Hi, it's only for around town - I'm a really girly driver and hate motorways!
I would have loved a D4D but I haven't seen anything even close to that offer since - I might be a little naive, but I thought they'd be desperate to sell considering that the new model is coming out!
I saw the 1.0 on an internet site a couple of months ago, new, for £6700 but nothing anywhere near that price at the moment - I am kicking myself now!

Aaah Toyota's - my specialist subject!
I know several brokers who will sell you a standard 1.0 Colour Collection 3dr for £6836, the air con is £455 and alloys can be had for approx £300 (less if you buy aftermarket ones) This works out slightly more expensive than the local used one.
My person feeling is that it is a bit expensive for used model - availability is usually pretty good on the yaris special editions so you could probably get a new one just as quick as they could prepare the used one.

Thanks blue haddock - I think I have stumbled upon one of the brokers you mean. Would you recommend the 1.0? I only go around town but economy is my main concern - I hate paying out at the pumps! Is it worth the extra for the D4D?

I've had various Yaris as company cars and as long as you don't stray outside town you'll be ok but when you start to use it for distance the high revs needed to keep it moving along at reasonable pace do become annoying. If your not doing massive mileage i don't think the extra cost of the D4D is worthwhile although they do hold their value well.
You may well be best off pushing the dealer hard on the used vehicle they have available. I would start the bidding at £6500 and see what they say, you know the price of a brand new one through a broker so use that as a bargaining tool to get the price down to a more acceptable level.

I've just picked up a 12 month old Yaris this evening for my parents.
Its a... '54' plate Yaris 1.0 'Blue' 5dr. The 'Blue' adds CD player, better trim, leather steering wheel and gear gator, remote central locking.
Anyway, its got 8000 miles on it, ex-demo, 12 months old. They paid £5800 for it from a main dealer inc 6mths Tax, they also give 12 months RAC cover. Part-exed a 1994 Rover 214 as well. I'm not offering an opinion on if you've got a good/bad deal, but I hope this post helps.
A couple of points.
There is a new Yaris in the showroom, but it is a lot bigger than the current Yaris and is quite a bit more to buy than the old Yaris - so I'd say that the old Yaris's used prices wont dip as much as you'd expect.
I drove it 80 miles on motorways and A/B/C roads. I was quite impressed with how easy it was to drive. A little noisy on the motorway, but if you turn the stereo up (which i do) its not that much of an annoyance. I also drove it with 3 adult passangers on the motorway, and it did struggle quite a bit. But for town/city driving its ideal.

Thanks everyone - you've been really helpful!
