what oil type for a Primera - mack the knife
I've recently bought a Nissan Primera "R" reg 1.6L - 16 valve - with 50K on the clock.

To be safe I'm going to do an oil change and fit a new oil filter.

I was wondering if anyone could advise on which type of oil + filter I should put in this car + advise on the recommended oil change times ?

Cheers

Mack

what oil type for a Primera "R" reg? - Aprilia
Filter from the dealer only - about £7.50 retail. Plus a copper sump plug washer.

Oil can be 10W-30, 10W-40, 5W-40, API SL.

Change every year or 9k miles. I would do it twice a year or 6k miles.

Forgot to ask you when you say "dealer" do you mean only use "Nissan" make? and if so is it readily available ? Also is the "copper sump plug washer" readily available? - ie: from the likes of Halfords ?

As Aprilia says buy the oil filter from any main dealer (ie a Nissan one) as opposed to a Motor Factors/Halfords ones which may be fine, but may not; so for a couple of quid extra it is best to use the main dealer one from their parts department. When you are there buying the filter get a sump plug washer as well (about 50p).

The last time I checked in halfords they were wanting even more for their oil filter for a K11 than the genuine thing from the Nissan place! The original Nissan filters are clearly better quality. I wouldn't consider buying non-genuine filters for Japanese cars.

I try to buy my filters several at a time, along with other service items if possible. They usually do a discount for cash then.

Cheers everyone.

Done a web search and found a local Nissan dealer only 2 miles away. I'll definately pop along and see them next week.
