Drilled & Grooved brake discs - Rover25
Shortly require replacement brake discs and pads for my Rover 25. I am thinking of 'upgrading' to drilled and grooved discs such as the Rossini items offered by Car Parts Direct, I would be interested to hear if any BR's have fitted these discs and if they do provide any benefit over OE discs.

no offence meant but if standard brakes are not good eneough perhaps it a driving course you should spend the extra money on.I DONT MEAN THAT AS AN INSULT,an advanced driving course would far outweigh any benefit you would get from the drilled and grooved discs on something as light as a rover 25

Standard brakes should be fine unless something is wrong, reason was not given as to why the change was wanted?

Rover 25 brakes have a bit of a reputation for being a bit poor, I d personally don't have a problem with them. Just that my discs and pads will need replacing very soon as they are worn and if there is a product out there that is an improvement over the OE set up then I'd like to give them consideration.

I moved to EBC Turbo Groove discs on my Rover 820 Vitesse Sport and can report that they certainly seem to be better at stopping the car and are also more consistant in performance with heavy use and over time. I was originally using EBC Green Stuff pads which were very good and are also virtually dustless, but have since moved to Red Stuff because of the weight of the car. I've been less impressed with Tarox offerings in the past.

We have reason to believe this thread was hijacked by a bunch of individuals (or one individual - we don't know which) who were trying simply to peddle a certain brand of brake disk.

We also have reason to believe that these individuals are also connected in some way with an outlet supplying these disks.

Hence we have cleaned up the entire thread as we do not feel that the advice within was offered in the best interests of the backroom.

In my professional journals the author of any letter expressing an opinion is obliged to declare any conflict of interest.

It is obvious that the motor industry, like any other commercial undertaking, exists primarily for the benefit of its shareholders. The more economic activity it can generate, the better. That means getting people like me [no connection whatsoever with the motor industry] to buy, service and repair cars as frequently as possible.

One can usually tell by the tone of some of the contributions whether or not the authors rely on the motor trade for their income but it would be 'honest' to declare it. So this is a plea for such a declaration - perhaps a crossed spanners logo by the signature for mechanics and a pound sign with wheels on for salesmen?

If it works, don't mend it. But if you want to buy designer discs, go ahead and enjoy them.

Yup fitted Rossini ones to the front of the Alfa 156 JTD when I had it. Definitely noticed an improvement and the JTD is reckoned to be poorly braked. Not only improved the braking overall but were cheaper than Alfa OE!
As to people saying that the Rover 25 doesn't need better brakes how do you know unless you try it! Anything which can improve braking for little or no cost must be worth having?

You would notice an improvement because you are putting new brakes in your car, slotted and groved discs have no effect whatsover until certain temperatures are reached and you will never reach those in a Rover 25 or 156 jtd maybe on a Porshe or V8 Merc.Just a complete waste of money.

Complete rubbish, nothing to do with temperatures and a lot with keeping the pads clean and releasing the gas build up.
Temps are a factor of pad material than disc type anyway, with harder pads needing to be hot before they're working, disc type makes very little difference to that.
The JTD is actually quite heavy and IT DID make a difference. The original discs weren't that worn anyway.
Also had an Alfa 75 and grooved discs didn't make very much difference.

As for waste of money they were cheaper than OE so how can it be a waste?
