New tyre's required just after the 18,000 mile service and a comment on the service that the brakes would need seeing to on the next service.

2nd service new discs required as binding - Renault have offerred to pay 50% trade price - but I have to pay 50% of retail price nearly £200 but the dealer will not contribute anything. Dealer was curt in his response to my asking if it was correct that the cars are stored abroad in a compound and the disc get rusty - prior to delivery the discs should be cleaned if not cleaned then they bind - Could this be anything to do with the problem? Has anyone else experienced this? Is it unusual for discs to need replacing so soon? First car I have had that needed tyre's and discs in the first 2 years.

Continental tyre's?

We needed 4 new tyres at 18,000 miles on SWMBO Migraine.
I could type all the problems we have had with the Renault Migraine, but I am trying to forget.

Don't get the 'trade price', 'retail price' bit - won't they just charge you half-price for the job?

If the brakes are 'binding' then that indicates a problem with the calipers rather than the discs. If the calipers are binding then it could be corrosion on the slider(s) or a sticking piston. Either way it should be sorted out now and not left.

No offence intended, but Renaults come bottom of almost every reliability/satisfaction survey and yet people still buy the things and keep having trouble. Against my better judgement I have recently been involved in sorting out a troublesome V6 Espace for my wife's friend's husband (if you follow that...). These things are absolute sheds and the quality of Renault electrical wiring and connections (in common with other French cars) is dreadful. Anyway, the wretched thing is fixed now. If I see it again it'll be £5-worth of unleaded and a box of matches to fix it.

Is that what she thinks or what you think?

Both as it happens, we both like driving it, it is well equipped, safe, and has had very few problems of any sort, the only issue is rear leg room now the kids are growing up.

Just replaced the discs on the Mercedes first time @76000mls,but surely the car is still under warranty and if it is binding brakes then the calipers are to blame, the discs are just the result of the problem and not the cause.

I've said it before but in fairness to Renault it needs to be said again - I had seven Renaults in a row, three of them going over 100,000 miles: all were extremely reliable.

Renaults seem more than usually dependent on proper servicing by good dealers. Not all are as good as mine was (Cross Roads in Oxfordshire): hence their poor showing in the surveys and their perpendicular rates of depreciation - and my defection to VW and Audi when I moved to a job with more salary but no company car.

I can't understand why you are having to pay anything for new discs, if there is a fault with them, which there must surely be. Some years ago, I had the discs replaced on a ZX, because they were distorted. The warranty covered it.
