Leading on from my post regarding tyre for my Vectra, I looked at prices for the named brands. I then started to wonder which tyre manufacturer makes which (cheaper but same) tyre. Does anyone know of a website that gives this information?

Not sure about websites but can recommend Nexen 2000. Very directional and good grip both wet & dry with good ride comfort. Can't comment on wear yet though. Recently replaced 2 rear Michelin Pilots on my RWD Estate - 225/16 55 - pilots £175 each! Nexen £62! all in. So far so good and they look pretty good as well.

I replaced the Pilots on my C5 with Continental 'Tourings' - half the price, a quieter, softer ride and as good or even better road holding. Not sure about wear rate yet - but even if not so good will still work out cheaper in the end.

I can recommend Yokohama A539 (Primera Si '98). Expect to pay less than for Michelin and more than, say, Kumho.
Interesting diamond shaped tread pattern, quiet, good ride, excellent wet braking and resistance to aquaplaning, good wet cornering, average dry braking and cornering.
I was going to try something else this time, but Swmbo hit something which punctured the casing eight miles from home and decided to try to get back! She arrived with the Yoko smoking and completely flat, and I was amazed at how tough and Swmbo proof these tyres obviously are, and booked in for another to replace it, and when tyres are needed (they last well too), will continue buying these A539s.

When you buy a MICHELIN, how much is for the tyre and how much is for Formula 1 and other such extravagancies?

Deryck was looking for a "who makes what" answer rather than "I recommend this particular brand".
It's an interesting question - any answers?
(The replies so far are also very useful, but belong to a different question...! I'm guessing islandman also posts on the Yahoo Omega forum as the Nexen was also recommended there recently) :-)

Well, there is plenty of who owns who on www.tyres-online.com
but it's just that who owns who, I don't think that's the same as saying it's the same tyre.

for a slightly different list check out: www.etyres.co.uk/car-tyre-manufacturers
the etyres website is a very useful, user friendly site for "all you ever wanted to know about tyres but were afraid to ask..."
