Get paid to drive a Renault! - Hawesy1982
Yes that's right! Just got an email offering me £15 of M&S vouchers for test driving one of their cars - so booked up a Clio 182 to test next Saturday.

I assume it's open to anyone, just visit

www.summertestdrive.co.uk

to book. I've made sure i've got the email printed too, just in case the vouchers don't appear.

Hmmm. Having clicked on that link, it doesn't mention the vouchers. Perhaps it is just for the people emailed with the offer?

Anyone want me to forward it? :-P

I have just visited the site and entered details of the car I would like to drive. It then came up with a load of options, none of which matched up to the car I had selected, which was a Megane 1.5 dCi auto. It is usually impossible to find a auto version for a test drive and I don't see the point of driving a manual version if that is not what I want.

I got the same e-mail offer but I wouldn't book a test drive just to land £15 worth of M and S vouchers...:-)

I might spend £15 in M&S to get a free car......

It's not like i'm busy next saturday morning though, and i've never driven anything that quick before so it'll be something new for me aswell as profitable

To qualify for the £15 Marks & Spencer Voucher test drives must be booked on the Retail Test Drive Booking System by either calling 0800 089 00 25 or visiting www.summertestdrive.co.uk. The test drive must be taken by the person who made the original booking on the System

Is £15 worth the super hard sell you will get after the test drive?
Get paid to drive a Renault! - Robin Reliant
Do you still get the vouchers if you write the car off?

Somebody should ask.
Get paid to drive a Renault! - Stuartli
I would think you may have to donate them toward the insurance excess...:-)

well if you write thcar off then you will be hit by your own insurance company when you come to renew your own.

Are there any disadvantages to doing this at all?

Ie, could I, feasibly, pitch up and have a spin in a Laguna DCi, despite being 21 years of age and having in intention of ever buying one?

Well, I'd turn up in a Mondeo, which would at least make me sound plausable..
Get paid to drive a Renault! - Hawesy1982
MichaelR: i'm a 22 year old student, who will be pitching up in a 10yr old Escort, and as soon as the test is finished and i get the hard sell i'll simply tell them firmly but politely that...

"I have no intention of buying their car for at least another year or two, however thankyou for the test drive and the vouchers."

I suspect that Renault are assuming most people will be taking up this offer for the vouchers and a spin in a new car, but if they make a sell - either now or in a couple of years time - of a new car, it'll be worth it to them.

i dont really get why everyone is having a downer on this.

As far as i can see its a good way to get a free drive in a car that would be great to drive, and you get a voucher to get some nice food from M&S. sounds great to me.

all you have to do is say no when you are finished and leave it at that.

If they told me I'd never have to go to M&S again, I'd go on a Renault test drive.

Test drive booked - Clio 182 Cup.

Wanted a Laguna GT 205 but none available.
Get paid to drive a Renault! - Hawesy1982
Update:

Did my testdrive in the Clio 182 - happened to be a Cup version as that was all they had in.

It was, as expected, pretty damn quick, once you got the revs up enough. I did a bit of a 'motorway slip road test' on a dual carriageway, then backed off at 95mph as i didnt really want to be taking the mick whilst the salesman was next to me, but after i got round the next bend, he suggested that i could have kept my foot flat round it and reached 115mph+!!! Clearly they like to 'sell' this car on it's engine and handling skills.

I was impressed with the car's speed bump ability too - nothing like as spine shattering as i had expected from the lowered suspension, and although this sounds silly, the steering wheel was beutifully ergonomic to use.

However i feel that in order to make the most of this car, you'd need to drive it like it was on testdrive 24/7, going above 4000rpm regularly. Unfortunately my preferred driving style is much suited to a diesel, so it's looking like a hot diesel hatch will be the eventual choice when i am able to afford a new(ish) car.
Get paid to drive a Renault! - Hawesy1982
Oh and i explained to the salesman that this was the first of a number of cars i needed to test before making a purchase, and as a result there was virtually no 'hard-sell'.

All-in-all a very pleasant experience, and my vouchers are in the post (my mother will be very pleased with them).

My flatmate went along on saturday (with no intention of buying a car) and introduced herself at reception. A young salesman walked over and said "are you just here for the free vouchers, because we're really busy and you'd do me a favour not having a test drive - you'll still get the vouchers". Brilliant, register, turn up, do nothing and get £15's worth of vouchers.
