And after that it was simply the 4 door Astra
|
Thank you.
The confusion is that the hatchback version here had 4 doors as well ...
The booted version was more popular here - in 1.4, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0L versions.

Ian,
Any hatchback in the UK is usually termed a 3 or 5 door
to avoid confusion with a 2 or 4 door saloon (sedan).
After 5 years in Australia I have to cope with some bilingual terms for cars...calling a car a hatchback causes very odd looks
saloon = sedan
estate = wagon
hatchback = ? (unknown)
cheers

Thanks Ian.
Just as a matter of interest, do Holden make an 'astra', and if so, what do they call it? ;)

Hi Ian,
As of about 4 years ago Holden started importing euro-style cars
for some of their range to suplement the Holden Commodore, the current range is something like...
Holden Barina (Corsa) imported from Spain
Holden Astra imported
Holden Vectra imported (hatches) built in Oz (sedan)
Holden Commodore built in Oz (3.8 +5.7 litre monsters!)
I had a Barina when I first moved out there.....soon replaced by a Subaru, wish I could have brought it back but the SVA and insurance were too much.
Pre about 1990 Holden had an agreement with Toyota, and sold rebadged Toyotas with Holden engines, one of those was a Holden Nova, another was a Holden Astra.....confusing or what!

ps the Holden Vectra Hatch was referred to as a 5 door sedan!
the Vectra Estate (Wagon) was tried but withdrawn because
it couldnt compete with the vast carrying capacity of the
Commodore wagon.

In the mid 80's Toyota called some of their 5 door models Liftbacks.
|
Thanks for the memory jolt, yes Toyota still sell a Corolla Liftback, but I have never heard that term for any other make.

Didnt the last corolla have a fastback aswell, or is that something else?
