My father in law wants a Rover 45 1.4/1.6. Looking to spend about 5k. Does anyone know what these cars are making at auction as i may buy one from there as opposed to private/dealer purchase. Cant be much interest in them nowadays.

hi i wouldnt have thought you would pay half that at auction there really is no demand for these cars on the second hand market. i think this is down to uncertainty over the future of rover as a whole , nobody wants an obsolete car that has no support if things go wrong with it. check out auto trader for a guide to retail prices if you really want one i personally would go for something else....cheers ..keo

Agreed - I should think a newish 45 would be pretty cheap from a dealer, and your F-I-L would get some warranty which he could well need.

BCA have special MG-Rover sales which are open to the public. I've bought my parents several cars from them over the years.
Last time I looked a couple of years ago
You get 12 month old fleet cars
Channel Island hire cars (really low miles)
3 year old secondary lease cars
The cars are all valeted and preped for sale, so save yourself money and cut out your local dealer!
Catalogues are avaialable by phoning the Branch about a week in advance and there were about 100 cars per sale.

Are you anywhere near a BAE SYSTEMS site?
The reason I ask is that employees are often offered very good deals on Rover lease and purchase deals - a bit of a hangover from when BAE used to own Rover. The best purchase I have seen on this scheme was a Rover 75 at 30% off!
Hence there may be some dealers near BAE SYSTEMS sites looking to offload 3 year old 45s for reasonable money. Go and talk to them

cheers guys i'll have a look at the bca website and pop down to blackbushe in the new year although its not the best time to get a bargain. i am at a loss why he is set on a Rover when he has 5k to spend. i have to admit I have a 96p 414si but that cost me 700 quid. for that money its a peach.

It's an old people thing ... Let me gues he wants one in Diamond white?
(My mother won't drive anything else)
Plus they're not bad cars, my mum's is a hell of lot better than the W reg mondeo I used to have. Trouble is they're getting dated these days

If he must spend that much money on such a car then point him in the direction of the Honda Civic.
Same car, Honda engine and back-up, better residual values.
