Worth respraying a 5 year old car? - pete&hisgolf
My T Reg Mazda 323 has some blemishes around the rear bumper and rear offside wheel - couple of deep scratches, grazes and marks accumulated over the last 5 years (I've owned the car for a year). A local, and recommended, body shop place will respray the bumper and rear three-quarter panel for £245. This seems like a lot of money so I'm wondering (a) whether it's worth getting it done on a car this age and (b) whether there is anyone cheaper (in or around Sheffield) who would do a good job. I'm planning on keeping the car for another couple of years.

Any insights or suggestions would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Pete

Try and get a quote from a firm like 'Chipsaway' or similar franchised 'touch-up' company.

As for VFM, that's down to you to decide, is c.£250 going to be worth it when you see your car all shiny and new....

Yes, check out ChipsAway, but £250 is one of the lowest respray estimates I've seen. Good bodyshop work takes time and shouldn't be rushed, and that ticks up the dosh. The quality of ChipsAway work appears to vary by franchisee, so try and find one that someone you trust can recommend. I am very happy with the job they did for me, but that outfit is too far away from you to be relevant.

I had the front bumper, front wings and bonnet of my then 4 year old Mondeo resprayed when I had my ST bumper fitted.

I paid just under £300 and the job was fantastic - despite the cars age, I was really pleased I had it done as it removed all the stone chips and gave the paintwork a brand new appearance. This, coupled with the fact the previous owner never used an automatic car wash, means the paintwork is excellent.

Makes it more satisfying when you spend the afternoon polishing it.

depends on the value of the car and how bad the condition is. If it puts off corrosion then I would have said money well spent. If you are going to care for it better then the previous owners then better to get it sorted at the start of your ownership than let it fester for a couple of years.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Sounds like it might be £240 well spent, so long as they do a good job.

Thanks again
