Hello there,
To keep my Sapphire cosworth company (or more to take its place while its off the road for a while) Ive been strongly considering a Mondie ST24,
The said car is a metallic burgundy RSAP Model with 90000 miles,
Im basically looking for a bit of guidance on what goes wrong with them and what to look out for,
also what they like to drive (hard) and live with, I accept the fact that theyll no doubt be thirsty,
Cheers in advance for any replys

Check the cooling system thoroughly for signs of overheating. Early black plastic impellered water pumps on the V6 tend to break up and block the waterways leading to headgasket failure. If you do buy it then the first thing to do if it's not been done is replace the water pump with a later white plastic one or better still a metal impellered one. Other than that they're bulletproof, no cam belts, timing chains last the life of the engine and give plenty of warning by rattling if they do wear. Excellent to drive, not the most powerful V6, but excellent handling and comfort (although the ST will have stiffer suspension). Fuel economy is not too bad, from my Mk3 2.5 V6 Ghia, I get 22 mpg at worst (winter time short journeys) to 36 mpg best (summer time, long run light foot). The growl of the V6 is haunting, once you've driven one you won't want to go back to a 4-pot.

Cheers for the relies lads, will bear this in mind although im torn between one of these and a 406 V6 for the minute

I tend to take the view that you cannot go far wrong with a Ford (I have an '02 Mondeo now) though I had a Vectra SRi 2.5 V6 estate, great car to drive, less refined at low revs that the Mondeo V6 though stronger in the mid range, engine seemed to smooth out as the revs rose. Needs cam belts changed every 60k miles. Mine was still going strong at 86k miles. Mid '98 on (16" wheels as opposed to 15") had an extra front suspension link, really handled very well, particularly good high speed stability. Great thing about the estate is that it is the same size as the hatch/saloon though with added practicality unlike Mondeo estates that tend to be bigger/wider.

The 24 valver Mondeo could do 10mpg and you would still love it. I guarantee it.
