Evening all,
Before I start, I love my Focus - it's everything I could want in a car (apart from a nice V8 block) but my feelings on the new one are not good.

The hatch is essentially a squashed C-Max with Mondeo headlamps. The saloon is the only one I would ever consider (again) but the prices are phenomenal.

My car, a Focus saloon Ghia was around 15 - 16k new (rough guess). That's for a Ghia. A 3 door "Titanium" will cost £15,775 new (base price). With the only options that are worth having, the price goes up to £18,000 for a non Ghia ford.

£19500 for a "Magnum Grey" 2.0 TDCI Ghia. CD and ESP. Wow - for that money I'd get an RS or even scrimp and save and buy a Golf R32.

What are Ford doing - they bring out an ugly car and then overprice it. Again, I have a weird taste (I like the saloon over the hatch any day) but surely I'm not alone in 1)Thinking the car is overpriced for something that is 2) so ugly.

Begs the question what the new Mondeo's going to cost. Much as I love Foci and Mondeos, there would be no way I would pay over 20 grand for a "basic" Mondy.

It's just a marketing ploy, they then slash the prices and people believe they are getting a discount. oldest trick in the book!

Ahhh. My nickname is Adam 'naive' Littler.

Thanks for that Schnitzel!

Maybe VW Golf's pricing department did the costings for them!

From the pics I've seen the new Focus looks nicer than the outgoing one.

I think overall there will be a sustained attempt to increase new car prices over the next few years, and this is just part of it.

Just been sorting my car paperwork out and I have a 2000.5 Zafira booklet. In those distant days £15750 list price would buy you a 1.6 Comfort. Now the same money would get you a 1.8 Life.

In addition to a bigger engine you also get ABS, a CD Radio (rather than a Radio Cassette) and front electric windows.

Not a bad improvement, but clearly the costs need to be borne somewhere.

Am I right in saying that the new Focus is wider than a Galaxy?

Titanium is a new trim level that sits ABOVE Ghia. So, the Ghia will be less than the £15k price you quote.

About five inches wider that the old Focus I read. Don't know whether that makes it wider than the Galaxy though.

Hmmm...

Going to have to PROBE this one...

Boooooo - get him off - GET HIM OFF NOW!!!

Thanks for your replies everyone. I didn't know that the Titanium level was above the Ghia but there you go.

Let's FOCUS. Sofa Spud, do you not think it looks too much like a squashed C-Max? The saloon and dare I say it, the estate, look like the only ones to have.

Not that I want to sound like a MAVERICK but I showed my sister a picture of a Mark 1 hatch (ST170) and a picture of a red Mark 2 (no idea what spec) and she said the ST looked miles newer. You don't know my sister but it's the equivalent of asking an alien from another GALAXY when it comes to cars...come to think of it, it's like the equivalent of asking an alien when it comes to anything!

Sorry, couldn't find anywhere for ESCORT, MONDEO, SIERRA etc...

If you will excuse me, I'm off to watch THUNDERBIRD....(s)

The titanium models are available on the c-max - above the Ghia, but still no sat nav or auto as standard.

They can't sell the damn things - so FMC is offwring up to 3:5 discount on all models - the Tdci's are sitting in holland I think.

When the dealer sells the car - it's up to you to ask if its a 2003 gate relaese, 2004, 0r 2004:25, etc. You could end up with a car that was built about a year ago if you don't ask.

I could be wrong but doubt this very much.

Yeah, but if you can get a car that was built a year ago at a much lower price (thank you very much Ford marketing programme) then I know that's what I would rather do...
