Why are "traffic calming measures" so called. In my case they have exactly the opposite effect ~ they positively wind me up!

IIRC, HonestJohn refers to them a little more accurately as "traffic harming measures".

Anyway, I agree, after a long road of speed-bumps and chicanes I'm far from calm.

I guess "traffic hindering measures" would be a little too honest. It's all about spin isn't it.
